It's on this weekend and it's supposed to be cool and I won't be there. But there's also a virtual part of that and Eggy Lippmann was doing the main build for it. It's supposed to stream video from the conference into the virtual world of Second Life so people can take part in it as well.
Cool stuff, I thought, and maybe somebody can walk around with a video cam and do some vlog style shots of the atmosphere and the people so it really connects (partly what I do on mrtopf.tv). But no, this event is a photo permission event which means that you cannot just take video or photos but need permission of all those on it first. Thus no real motivation for anybody to do so.
To me it sounds a little strange and silly. If you want your RL identity hidden (maybe because you are a male playing a woman in SL or for whatever reason) you should maybe not attend SLCC at all. And while being there why not share the love with all those who couldn't go?
But anyway, SLCC seems to be one of the very rare conferences/meetings on which photos are not allowed and this is a sad thing (btw, the same applied to the SL Views programm attendees who were visiting Linden Lab but no photos of anything interesting like the atmosphere were published. sad. it could have been a nice opportunity to bring LL a bit closer to the SL residents).
So what we will see instead is probably just a streaming of the talks what might not bring that much new probably.
(but maybe I am wrong and it will work out better than I thought it would. In fact I did not attend last years SLCC even virtually and so I cannot tell).
